OSXFAQ Reader Tips
As Smooth As Silk - In Mac OS X.
OSXFAQ Reader Tip By Lin Mu
Do you like the look of type in cocoa applications ? It's called font smoothing,
or antialiased text. Some people hate it, some love it. Me I like it. Now you
can have font smoothing in all your Mac OS X 10.1.5 carbon applacations, today,
right now. How? Well first you need to update to Mac OS X 10.1.5, then go and
download "Silk 1.0". From the Silk read-me:
"Silk enables Quartz text rendering and smoothing introduced in Mac OS X 10.1.5
in all Carbon applications. This means antialiased text in Microsoft Internet
Explorer, Mozilla, and many others. Why wait for developers to update their
Carbon applications when you can get the silky smooth text everywhere, right
now? And of course, Silk is completely free!"
This installs a Preference Pane that you find in System Preferences. You can
exclude any application you choose, and have "Silk 1.0" load at start-up.
