Inside Mac - September 4th 2004This Weeks GuestsMichael Conley - Manager Sales/Marketing - Kodak's Austin Development Center
Michael has worked at Kodak for 35 years in various Sales and Marketing positions, achieved the level of VP & GM Sales, Consumer Imaging Division. Developed Marketing and Sales plans and programs at ClientLink (a custom application software developer) as SR VP of Marketing and Corporate Sales. Joined Applied Science Fiction (ASF) as VP of Marketing, ASF subsequently acquired by Kodak. Currently Manager of Sales and Marketing for Kodak's Austin Development Center
Kodak's Austin Development Center's mission is to apply our unique digital imaging technologies to advance the ability of people to communicate with images. Our strategy is to incorporate our imaging technologies into Kodak products and software and license the technology to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). We will also strive to adapt our technologies to serve the consumer photoimaging mass market by developing image correction and enhancement software utilities that can be used in consumer imaging applications. Our business is comprised of two distinct yet complementary technology suites. The first, has been referred to as "digital dry film processing" which is now simply called "Kodak Film Processing Station" (FPS). The technology breaks current market entry barriers by enabling traditional film processing to occur anytime, anywhere, in a matter of minutes. The Kodak Film Processing Station together with a G3 Picture Maker kiosk provides; film processing, viewing, editing, enlarging, printing, sharing, and CD archiving in a self-service system, whose footprint is a fraction of the size of traditional film processing equipment. The FPS has no harmful chemical effluents, and no plumbing or other special infrastructure. The time required to process and print a full 24 exposure roll of film with the FPS is under 10 minutes. Though the FPS technology can be incorporated into current photo processing equipment, near-term value is derived by enabling self-serve, Kodak Picture Maker kiosks, which also print images from digital cameras and/or scanned photos. The modular system configuration and derivative adaptations also allow expansion of photofinishing into non-traditional markets such as amusement parks, resorts, hotels and other outlets where people take pictures. The FPS environmentally friendly attributes facilitate unit placement in both traditional and non-traditional photo processing markets. The second technology family consists of software-based, automatic image correction and enhancement applications. These products include DIGITAL ICE Technology for removing dust and surface defects from scanned film or photo prints, DIGITAL ROC Technology for restoring, correcting, and balancing color, DIGITAL GEM Technology for removing image grain or noise, and DIGITAL ICE3 Technology, a combined product suite for film scanners. These technologies are presently offered as embedded licensed features in digital film scanning systems and have become standard value-add differentiators for the world's leading film scanner and digital minilab manufacturers. A DIGITAL ICE Photo Print Technology has also been invented which offers automatic surface defect correction solutions for photographic prints and is integrated into OEM flatbed scanners. Lastly, DIGITAL ROC Technology, along with DIGITAL SHO Technology, a technology which automatically reveals details in overexposed and underexposed image areas, and DIGITAL GEM Technology are also sold by Kodak's ADC for use with Adobe Photoshop and other compatible image editing applications as software plug-ins. http://www.asf.comJay Nelson - Editor and Publisher of Design Tools Monthly
