The Backup Book - Disaster Recovery from Desktop to Data Center
Network Frontiers Releases the Third Edition of The Backup Book The Backup Book: Disaster Recovery from Desktop to Data Center - by Dorian J. Cougias The Backup Book: Disaster Recovery from Desktop to Data Center is a comprehensive guide to backup and recovery. From Internet backup to sophisticated tape systems, Dorian Cougias leaves no backup strategy uncovered. He spoke to more than 100 vendors, and researched hundreds of leading disaster-recovery products. Veritas, Dantz Development, NovaStor, Overland, Quantum, Sony, Apple, and Dell are just a few of the vendors he worked with to complete The Backup Book. In true Network Frontiers Field Manual style, Cougias approaches this as a real-world exercise, testing each piece of equipment, working with a team of 300 field editors from seven different countries, to discover stellar software, hardware, and strategies. He starts with a simple hard drive backup and works all the way up to restoring a relational database running on a Storage Area Network, all the time keeping the reader grounded in the real world. "Plenty of books are all about theory--but when your data is gone and the boss is turning purple, theory, schmeory. We wanted to give the IT professional a straightforward way to assess their requirements and then really deploy a backup system," says Cougias. "We got systems and software in from every vendor and tested each one of them. While I would love to say we just loaded it up and it ran, that was not the case--plenty of the tools we tested never even made it into the book. We only wrote about the ones that really work." "What is great about this book is that it addresses everyone's needs. We cover multiple platforms, including OS X. We go over every type of medium: LTO, AIT, Internet, disk, and even backing data up to your iPod. And we look at costs and ease of deployment and maintenance, because nobody wants to babysit a backup server." The Backup Book sifts through a sea of vendors to provide the reader a comprehensive analysis of the winning products for varying scenarios. After reading The Backup Book, you'll be able to identify the status of your data--critical or less so--and replicate, duplicate, or back it up with the best product, within the time necessary for your business to stay up and running. Dorian Cougias is the founder and CEO of Network Frontiers. Previously, Dorian served as CIO of two of the world's leading advertising agencies. While at True North Communications, he managed a global IT staff of 1,500 that serviced approximately 500 offices spread across more than 90 countries. At Fallon McElligott, Dorian worked with clients such as BMW, Nikon, and United Airlines. Dorian has authored four certification programs, eight books, and numerous technical articles. He is a member of the University of Delaware Technology Advisory Board where he also serves as an adjunct professor.
