Dr. Mac's OS X Tip-of-the-Day

Dr. Mac: Entourage-to-Address Book Migration - a few clicks and you're done...

By BOB LEVITUS

Yee ha! Patient "Chris O." wins a copy of Dr. Mac: The OS X Files for this tip...which resolves an issue I've been hoping to resolve for weeks - how to get my contacts out of Entourage - which is notoriously Export-hostile and into Address Book. Now I tried drag and drop. And exporting as text. Neither worked. In fact, dragging the contacts from Entourage to a folder only half-worked - I dragged 400 contacts; 236 of them appeared in the folder and the rest disappeared into the ether. That's not good. So until Chris sent this tip I was still pondering how this might be done... So, here is...

> Chris O's Entourage-to-Address Book Easy Contact Migration--a few clicks and

>
> 1) Open Entourage's Address Book.
>
> 2) Select All Contacts. (Entourage:Edit->Select All)
>
> 3) Send Contacts as vCard to your Mail.app email account.
> (Entourage:Contact->Forward as vCard)

> Address Book savvy applications.

It's easy. It's fast. Best of all, it works. Now if I can synchronize Address Book with Entourage and Entourage with the phone, and the phone with Address Book, and... I guess I really need Apple's announced but as yet unavailable iSync.

Hey... it's September... Steve said it would ship in September...

Maybe it is coming out soon. Like today.

Until then, this is a great first step.
