Nuclear Radiation Detectors For Jaguar.

Black Cat Systems announces the release of a Mac OS X driver for the USB versions of the GM-10 and GM-45 nuclear radiation detectors, which plug into any Macintosh or Windows computer (using a USB port) and detect alpha, beta, gamma, and x-ray radiation.

The GM-10 is small (about 4 by 2 1/2 by 1 1/4 inches), lightweight (under four ounces), and simple to use. It just plugs into your computer's serial port, and is self powered off of the port, no batteries or AC adapters are required, making it easy to use with a laptop in portable applications. The GM-45 is slightly larger, and is approximately 25 times more sensitive for alpha and beta radiation.

The accompanying Rad software charts radiation levels over time, stores data to disk for further analysis, and can even automatically upload graphs of data to your website.

The GM-10 and GM-45 are perfect for anyone who wants to detect and measure both natural and man-made nuclear radation. Sources include naturally occuring radon and uranium/thorium ores in soil, contaminated foods/products, nearby nuclear facilities, and more. Their high sensitivity allows detection down to the microroentgen level, allowing extremely low levels of radiation to be measured.

Many products contain radioactive materials, and may be present in your home or office. Our Radioactive Products page details some of these items. You even get exposed to larger than background radiation levels due to cosmic rays while on airplane flights.

Both the GM-10 and GM-45 are ideal for hobbyists, students/educators, researchers, and those concerned about their enviromental nuclear radiation levels.

The USB version of the GM-10 is priced at just $179, and the GM-45 is $349.
