How can I move/configure the dock?

Assuming that you've already set the size, magnification, auto-hide, and bounciness properties via the Apple/Dock menu, you may want to try Docking Manuevers. This lets you position the dock along any edge or corner of the screen.

How do I persist file "creator" codes? My BBEdit *.html files keep reverting to IE associations!

Here is how to change the default application associated with a document (Mac OS X public beta):
  1. Select a file and choose Show Inspector (Apple-I) from the Desktop's File menu.
  2. Select Application from the Show pop-up menu.
  3. Use the settings in this Inspector window to determine if this document should be translated (like the File Translation tab in the File Exchange control panel of Mac OS 8.5 and later) or if the document type should always be opened in a particular application (like the PC Exchange tab).

How do I uninstall an application from the GUI?

When I first got X I installed OmniWeb. Then a new version was released, so I d/l'ed it and installed it. Realizing that I now had two versions of the app, I went to delete the original installation. I got an error that said I did not have priviledges to uninstall. Eventually, I just opened a terminal window and then su'ed to root, but shouldn't there be an easy way to do this within the GUI? Does one have to Log Out from the Desktop and then log in as the root account?
Jim Roepcke suggests this:
Do a Get Info on the application... go to the File Sharing settings (I think that's what it's called, you know where you edit the rwx bits on the file) and give yourself read/write permissions on the file.
