OSXFAQ Mac OS X Tip-of-the-Day

Text Edit - Use the Character Palette

By Adrian Mayo - Editor - OSXFAQ

Insert special characters, or view the available characters, using the Character Palette.

Select the character type, for example Currency Symbols, and the character from within that group.

Click the Font Variation twisty and make sure Collections is set to 'Containing selected character'. You will be presented with the chosen character in all the typefaces that include that character. Select the variation you want and hit 'Insert' to insert the character into the current document.

View the entire Unicode character set. Select 'View: Unicode' and Unicode Table to display all the Unicode characters. Open up the Font Variation twisty to see any character in all available fonts.

Alternatively, select Unicode Blocks instead of Unicode Table to view the character set by character group.

Enjoy !! :-)
