OSXFAQ Mac OS X Tip-of-the-Day
Know Your Daemons - Remote Login (SSH)
By Adrian Mayo - Editor - OSXFAQ
Enable remote login to your Mac from anywhere.
Apple have made it very easy to enable remote login to your Mac. Simply
start 'Remote Login' by launching System Preferences:
Remote login provides a Terminal connection to your Mac using a daemon
called SSH, or the Secure SHell. Anyone who has an account on your Mac
can log in to their account from a remote location using the command
shown in System Preference (change the 'username@' part as appropriate
for each user). For example, you can log into your home Mac from work.
Remember, this is a Terminal connection. All communication between your
Mac and the remote computer is encrypted, including the password.
Easy! But, as with Apache, you are out of luck if you wish to customise
SSH in any way. To do this you must edit SSH's configuration file
directly in the Terminal. Tomorrow's tip will show you how to change
some of the more useful settings.
Enjoy !! :-)
