iTunes (revisited) - Visualizer Configuration

By Adrian Mayo - Editor - OSXFAQ

Today's tip shows how to control the iTunes visualizer slideshow mode. As explained in yesterday's tip, it's normally changed randomly over time (called random slide show mode).

Click for yesterday's tip.

Press the m key to select a new slideshow mode. Each press of the m key moves to the next mode. The three modes are:

Random slideshow mode - this is the default mode where each of the three effect settings (the foreground effect, the background effect, and the colour) change randomly over time.

Freeze current config - the current settings are frozen and the visualizer will retain the current look.

User config slideshow mode - in this mode you can capture settings and store them.

Let's take a look at the user config mode. Press m until the desired mode is shown in the top right of the display.

Wait for a display you like, or press c and use q a z w s x as explained in yesterday's tip. To save the current configuration setting, press one of shift-0 to shift-9. As you might have already guessed, you can store up to 10 settings. To recall a setting, press 0 to 9 (not shifted). The new configuration should slowly fade in. Press c to read the configuration settings immediately, displayed as usual in the top right of the display.

Some more key strokes:

r selects a random configuration.

? / h bring up a brief help menu.

Tomorrow's tip shows how to use Automator to control iTunes.

Enjoy! :- )
