We all know that an alarm can be set in iCal to alert you that a calendar event is soon to occur. For example, you might set iCal to send an email the day before an important meeting to give yourself time to prepare. But on the day, you might like a further reminder 15 minutes before hand so actually turn up. Click and hold the 'alarm' tag (not the pop-up to its right) and select Add Alarm.
Ever get bored with the standard vibrating iCal alarm clock?
You can replace it with any QuickTime movie, which plays when the iCal alarm is triggered, complete with sound track too. Select the iCal icon in the Applications folder and Control-Click it to bring up a contextual menu. From the menu select "Show Package Contents". Open the Contents folder, then Resources. The standard iCal alarm movie is in the file "alarmclock.mov". Save this file then replace it with the QT movie of your choice. Your next iCal alarm will be a little more interesting. (You'll need to be an Administrator to make these changes.) Enjoy! :- ) Tiger 10.4.3 Discuss this tip in the OSXFAQ Mac OS X Tip-of-the-Day Forum E-mail your comments or suggestions to webmaster@osxfaq.com
